Indeed, profiles can be really helpful!
Amazing that this seems to be the first identifiable image of a rather common mid latitude eastern and southeastern US species at the guide (mostly replaced by cerasi to the north). This side view reveals the short bristles more or less evenly distributed over the promesonotum, and the dorsal shot shows the longitudinally rugose surface of the same body region.
