Could someone help me identify this? It was found in some brush while stacking piles of wood at noon time - Platydracus maculosus
Preston, Connecticut, USA
May 7, 2011
Size: approx. 2 inches
It did attempt to sting and attepted to fly (wings may have been damaged). I found it around noon time under pile of brush I was moving while stacking wood. The wings seemed to reflect a purple hue and the body a dark brown in the light, but in the shade the entire insect was brown. It has 6 short legs, a short set of what I assume to be pincers around its also what I assume to be mouth, and a short pair of antennae.
