May Beetle - Listrochelus - male - female

May Beetle - Listrochelus - Male Female
Cochiti Lake, Sandoval County, New Mexico, USA
April 25, 2011
Size: 18mm
Several beetles were flying low to the ground looking for the pheromone emitting female. I believe that once mating is completed the female burrows into the soil to lay eggs much like the cicada. The coating over the wing enclosures is clouded in color rather than a shinny brown.

Phyllophaga sp.
maybe P. scoparia; not sure if that species ranges into NM or not.
