swamp white oak finger gall -
Andricus chinquapin
Warren Twp. , Somerset County, New Jersey, USA

Size: 1 cm?
I found this little finger gall (I assume) on the underside of a white oak leaf. Any idea what made it?
No sign of gall on upperside of leaf.

I frassed the second image, which shows that there is no sign of the gall on the upper leaf surface. I should note that Weld describes and illustrates this gall as projecting from the leaf edge as an extension of the vein, rather than coming out perpendicularly from the middle of the vein--but otherwise it looks just like this.
