Catops is safe, imho
if you care enough to take 'canonical' pix of a well-mounted specimen, i could show it to Stuart Peck and have a shot at species ID

I'll see
These were the best I could manage with the live bugger. After three hours in the fridge, it was spry as ever.

A temporary knockout "drug"
is a short exposure to ethyl acetate, a killing agent. If the beetle is removed shortly after it stops moving it should recover. Meanwhile you can take lots of "still life" photos. I purchased some from bioquip.com but seldom have the patience to use it for this purpose.

Well...
It's a bit moot now. It expired overnight, so at least I have a non-motile specimen to take photos of. I need to start making proper specimens of some of these, if only I could find the time. Thanks for the ethyl acetate suggestion.
