Great find, Colette -
this is the first Pseudomasaris texanus at bugguide, a male (note the large, expanded clubs of the antennae).
In males of this species, the eyes are separated at the narrowest by about one ocellar diameter. In the similar P. phaceliae males separation of the eyes at the narrowest amounts to 2 1/2- 3 times the diameter of a posterior ocellus (simple eye). There are other differences, but this is one of the most obvious, and nicely seen in your photos.
I'll add more to the INFO page later tonight.
I assume you still have the specimen. I suggest to soften, then articulate it and rephotograph it before pinning.
Finally, females have been found collecting pollen until at least May 17, most likely in Phacelia. So, perhaps you might venture out and bring back some nice photos of females, and perhaps more males, in the flowers?

Moved from ID Request.

Pretty sure this belongs here--but I'm not finding a good match at the species level. With luck, the experts will be able to tell us what it is.

Thanks for your time once aga
