Length may have been ~16-18mm, but I'm not sure.

Some of the color difference may also be due to lighting. My RAW version looks exactly like this image, and no flash used.

Hartmut, I believe your Sten
Hartmut, I believe your Stenopogon is also engelhardti. This may seem surprising, when compared to #515443 -- just submitted by Lynn from Anza-Borrego (the flies even have almost identical postures!). But I think the differences are mainly due to post-processing techniques with the digital images.
