Larvae construct cases made of silk, which may or may not be decorated with seed pappus, sand, etc. This group is paraphyletic and basal with respect to all other Coleophora species except the seed casebearers. (1)
This group is divided into two groups, those with bivalved larval cases and those with trivalved.
