Found in pool - Neoscapteriscus borellii - Male
Mexia about an hour east of Waco, Texas, USA
May 10, 2006
Size: about 1 inch long
Found in pool although I don't think it is a waterbug. This one is alive but there were many that were dead.

Moved
Moved from Mole Crickets.

Scapteriscus borellii ♂
This is Scapteriscus borellii Giglio-Tos, 1894 ♂. The four pale spots on the pronotum are characteristic of this species.

mole cricket
when I was young I cleaned pools part time , and would find these all the time in there.Dont know if they are in search of water or just blunder in..

it
seems that there is a halo around this guy. and this guy is a mole cricket. i have no idea what this guy was doing in your pool, because these guys dig in the ground, hence the enlarged tarsi (last segments of the leg)

Found in pool
I not only found them in our pool but also in the horses water tub.

Idea.
Well, mole crickets are among the orthopteran insects parasitized by horsehair worms. One of the effects of this relationship is that the worm, when it is ready to leave the host and reproduce, 'drives' the host to seek water. Once the host is submerged, the worm exits. Bizarre, creepy, and utterly fascinating:-)
