ID for a Hymenopteran? - Dielis plumipes
Pensacola, Escambia County, Florida, USA
May 17, 2011
On vacation in Pensacola, FL, I took a walk through the Baars-Firestone Wildlife Sanctuary on the University of West Florida Campus. Having been astounded at how few Escambia County insects are documented on BugGuide, I took along my camera and snapped a few insect photos, including this hymenopteran. I'm wondering if if might be a scoliid wasp?

Unfortunately, I only got this one photo, so I'm not sure how much information can be gleaned, but it's likely that even the family would be a new addition for the county.

Thanks!
Thanks so much for the ID! It's amazing how many interesting insects one can see on a walk in the woods in an unfamiliar area.

Campsomeris plumipes?

Seems like a possibility
Thanks for the suggestion! Following up, I checked Scoliid Wasps of Florida, and the banding pattern on the abdomen seems to match this one, and C. plumipes certainly occurs in Florida.
