Magicicada species ID request - Magicicada - male

Magicicada species ID request - Magicicada - Male
Wolfskin, Oglethorpe County, Georgia, USA
May 9, 2011
Ventral view: I hope this is not a mutilated specimen - it appears to be a male but possibly not the usual M. tredecim species that our ongoing Brood XIX seems to consist of. The other two species, M. tredecassini and M. tredecula, are much less yellow in the ventral banding. This individual was collected and photographed by neighbors 800 feet to our northeast (permission granted). Size not known.

compare to...
similar view of what I am pretty darn sure is a male M. tredecassini from NC:

The tip of the abdomen on the specimen from Georgia looks odd--could this be the fungal infection that afflicts Magicicada?

species id?
The ventral surface has tendencies towards browns (-decim or -decula?).

I agree, it looks infected with Massospora cicadina - a fungal disease affecting the 13 and 17 year Magicicada species.

Agreed
Based on a couple of clear males I'd found in the same area, this one did look damaged. Thanks for the input - the discussion has confirmed and added to what I've gotten through reading and looking at photos.
