Livermore, Alameda County, California, USA

Size: 1/2 cm
This fellow is smaller than other Ashy-gray ladybugs that I have seen and I wondered if it was something different ? I found it amongst many native ladybugs , and it was as small as the Coccinella trifasciata . Any comments are welcome , sincerely Beth

I live in ontario and i saw one today when was at the checkout at walmart do they bite?

most lady beetles don't bite
I've only been bitten by the Multicolored Asian Lady Beetle, and they don't have big sharp jaws so it's just a very slightly uncomfortable nip, not a hard bite. Lady beetles have no venom and carry no diseases, so even if one does bite you there's nothing to worry about.

size range
This could be a male - they're typically a millimeter or two smaller than females - or it could have matured in less-than-ideal conditions. Poorly-fed larvae become smaller adults than well-fed larvae.

It's an Ashy allright
