Aphids on willow - Macrosiphum

Aphids on willow - Macrosiphum
San Francisco, San Francisco County, California, USA
May 21, 2011
On undersides of leaves of small tree tentatively identified as Arroyo Willow, Salix lasiolepis, in Glen Canyon. These look similar to the green form of plain old rose aphids except that the juveniles have disproportionately sturdy-looking cornicles: large diameter and a cylindrical shape without tapering.

ID
Certainly Macrosiphum. The plant looks like Oemleria (Indian Plum), but it might be Salix (willow) of some kind. Very nice photo.
