Ant - Nylanderia flavipes - Female
Harrisonburg, Rockingham County, Virginia, USA

This (what looks to me like a) reddish-brown winged ant was exploring the leaf of a broad leaf weed in the garden near a colony of black aphids guarded by large black ants.

Nice pictures, which show the pilosity pattern well, including on the antennal scape (long, first segment).

However, your size estimate is too large. This creature's identity is Nylanderia flavipes, and she is about 4mm in total length. This Asian species (of a genus with several native species and some other introduced ones in the USA) is common in urban areas of the greater DC, Pittsburg-Philly, NYC area. (Also recently discovered in the Cleveland area.)

Thanks
Thank you for the id Dr. Trager. I went back and recalculated the size by photographing a scale at the same magnification. You are absolutely correct, she measured out to almost exactly 4 mm.

Looks like a Lasius queen to me, but let's wait for Dr. Trager
