carabid - Selenophorus granarius

carabid - Selenophorus granarius
Canton, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, USA
May 26, 2011
Size: 5.3mm

Very likely Selenophorus granarius.
Moved to Selenophorus granarius from prior "S. ellipticus" upon my re-examining very similar northeast specimens received from Tom Murray.

PWM note. Externally, S. granarius vs S.ellipticus are most reliably separated by ABL ≤ 6 mm vs > 6 mm; scutellar striae short, interrupted, or absent vs prolonged and well impressed.

Moved tentatively
Moved from Harpalinae.

i really like Selenophorus ellipticus for this one...

Moved
Moved from Ground Beetles.

Oops..
this ended up at my place-LOL...I can forward it to Peter if you want :). Im not going to subscribe to this image so please let me know by email what you want to do.

Confusion in BugGuide number:
Tom, the single specimen assigned to BG #521258 (Canton MA,) that you sent me is Badister reflexus, 4.2 mm, not at all like the larger harpaline shown here. Please advise.

I just went through all the pictures from around
that date, and this is the only Badister I photographed. The tags must have gotten mixed up.

Image BG #522062 is consistent with
Badister reflexus. Apparantly I did not receive the harpaline specimen corresponding to image at top of this page.

MIA
I guess this one will remain a mystery:-(
