Different Katydid Nymphs - Scudderia mexicana

Different Katydid Nymphs - Scudderia mexicana
Encino, Los Angeles County, California, USA
May 13, 2006
Size: 1/4-1/2 inch
These are quite different from the usual katydid nymphs I see. Their presence on Plumbago auriculata suggests perhaps Phaneroptera

I'm going to take the liberty of moving these to S. mexicana
on the grounds that all the adults I've seen from L.A. County so far are S. mexicana, and most authors now consider that to be a different species from S. furcata (traditionally, S. mexicana was in the past, and still is by some, considered a subspecies of S. furcata).

Moved from Fork-tailed Bush Katydid.

The two-for-one shot is quite nice
It's a real challenge for me to get everything in focus, particularly those long antenna. I have one nymph similar to yours (out of about six), but the legs are bright green. Lots of variety in these guys, eh?
