Extremely nice photos...
When you say beating oaks, I assume you are referring to small sized oaks?

 
Yes,smaller sized oaks and whatever I can reach
with an old narrow rake handle,mostly overhead and over a beating
sheet,I know beating sounds harsh,more like tapping branches just
hard enough to jar insects loose,many will fall when spooked
anyhow.
