Another Syrphid Fly - Toxomerus geminatus - female

Another Syrphid Fly - Toxomerus geminatus - Female
Fairmont, Marion County, West Virginia, USA
May 27, 2011

Moved
Moved from Toxomerus marginatus.

Oops! Guess I saw a margined abdomen where there wasn't one. Sorry about that! (And thanks for catching the error, Ron!)

Oh but wait -
I see that too! I just came on here to look at Toxomerus photos to make sure I finally get the difference (the margin), and here I see this picture, telling me I still can't tell the difference! What's the story? Is there a "margin" here just on account of the rotundness?

You're right about the "margin", Ashley.
Do note the dot, as I described above.
Also, have you seen this?

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

Also Toxomerus marginatus
And also a female.

Thanks very much!
Thanks very much!

Close! I have it Toxomerus geminatus, female
A quick differentiator: T. marginatus has a dot towards the end of the abdomen.

More iffy: T.geminatus/occidentalis(western version) have a "keyhole' shape in the pattern.
