Beetle digging - Lytta aenea? - Lytta aenea - female

Beetle digging - Lytta aenea? - Lytta aenea - Female
Broad Meadow Brook Wildlife Sanctuary, Worcester, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA
May 28, 2011
This beetle was seen digging a small hole and looking very ready to lay some eggs. When we returned a few hours later on the same trail, she had her abdomen in the hole, presumably laying the eggs. (Unfortunately the camera battery died between the time we took these pictures and the time we returned, or there would be some pictures of that as well.)
