Midge - Cryptochironomus - male

Midge - Cryptochironomus - Male
Guelph, Wellington, Ontario, Canada
May 31, 2011
Size: 5 mm

Moved from Chironomini.

Maybe Cryptochironomus
This might be a Cryptochironomus. Note the bulge on the inner side of the gonostylus and compare to Townes 1945 figure 110.(1)

Townes
To me, it agrees with the description of C. sorex and C. scimitarus, with the gonostylus closely resembling the latter figure (110).

More pictures
Of the same individuals, no. I will shoot more midges, from additional angles as necessary.
