Red Tick or Something Else? - Amblyomma americanum

Red Tick or Something Else? - Amblyomma americanum
Lake MOnticello, Fluvanna County, Virginia, USA
May 27, 2011
Size: Tick
I thought this might be a tick when I took a photo of it but upon blowing it up, and it being all red with that unusual spot on the back, I have no idea now. Can anybody help? Thanks, Donna

Definitely a tick
The Lone Star Tick (Amblyomma americanum) is similar...

YUK!
Thanks for letting me know. It's sure far from the Lone Star state here in VA. LOL
