Devils Lake, Ramsey County, North Dakota, USA

Size: Length ~ 10 mm
I'm hoping that there might be enough detail in this image to confirm (or correct) the genus. Can species be identified using photos? Thanks for any and all help! ;-)

Maybe Chironomus (Camptochironomus)
The most likely ID is Chironomus (Camptochironomus).

Do you have a view from more in front?

Thanks John!
Unfortunately, I don't have a frontal view of this specimen. Your appended photos are amazing! I've got a bad case of camera envy. ;-)

Find a male
You don't need a good camera if you find a male. Typical males of Chironomuus (Camptochironomus) are identifiable by eye, if you have good eyesight or are nearsighted.

Thanks, John!
I'm off to find a male!
