unusual banded larvae - Ptilodactyla

unusual banded larvae - Ptilodactyla
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
May 12, 2006
Size: about 12mm
Head & shoulders shot

I'm attempting to year these young ones. I killed off several by trying them on a diet of just puppy chow. After that I just put them in with some of the rotting wood from where I found them. Interestingly, all I found were roaming among and under the wood chips/chunks, leading me to speculate that it might be fruiting fungus bodies rather than fungus-laced wood that they were eating. Just a guess...
