Here's to the taxonomists
In his book "The Variety of Life" (published in paperback by OUP in 2000), Colin Tudge writes for a BugGuide audience -- lay people with more than a passing interest in biology and natural history. His book is worth buying or borrowing alone for the first chapter, but the New York Times Book Review has done us the benefit of reproducing it online, along with a review by evolutionary biologist W. Ford Doolittle. I think it makes sense to read Tudge's opening chapter first and then the review, but I'll leave that up to you.
