I suspect this measurement was made...
...from the tip of the outstretched antennae to the tip of the back outstretched legs. Normally, Tree Crickets are measured from the mouth area to the distal tip of the abdomen. They range in length from just under 1 inch to just over 1 1/2 inches.

photo date?
These seem to be most common in August and September in the northeast, although there's one BugGuide photo from New York in June. Did you shoot this one in May?

tree cricket
I could only try to remember how big it was. I took this pic last year I have only live at this residence since july 2005 so I would say it was taken Aug or Sept. I came across the pic again and decided to find out what it might be

Thanks all

Orthoptera: cricket of some sort
A cricket in the broad sense.

That looks like a tree cricke
That looks like a tree cricket-we get them all summer. The ones we get are brown or Green. I think I read our are California Tree Crickets (but we live in PA)? Yep I just looked it up again-that's what we have.

Oh here's one that looks just like yours http://bugguide.net/node/view/29758/

Two-spotted tree cricket female.
This is a female of the two-spotted tree cricket, Neoxabea bipunctata. Not uncommon at lights. males are far more elusive, however:-)

are these really 3 inches?
The others in the guide are listed as 2 to 3 cm. We were not expecting that they would be 3 inches!
