New smallest beetle, plus mites! - Bacanius punctiformis

New smallest beetle, plus mites! - Bacanius punctiformis
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
May 14, 2006
Size: approx. .676 - .804 mm
I have posted four images of this beetle with mites in part because each shows a little more anatomy of this very tiny beetle that my lens is not really adequate to capture. However, I must admit to being a bit tickled at the beetle/mite turnabout, and hope others are as well. Finally, although I got no good topside images of the mite, I wanted to explain in images why I initially thought this beetle was a mite.

In this image, the stria or wrinkles or grooves or whatever they are in the beetle's elytra are nicely captured.
