Lady Beetle - Rhyzobius lophanthae

Lady Beetle - Rhyzobius lophanthae
Mobile (Dog River), Mobile County, Alabama, USA
June 7, 2011
Size: 2mm
=v= wants beetles, I get beetles. =v= wants tiny beetles, I get tiny beetles. What's this hairy little one?

Moved
Moved from Scymnus.

I goofed, it's Rhyzobius lophanthae
Not a hard mistake to make, with its dark color and hairiness, but no Scymnus is metallic. The shape of the pronotum and the hairless eyes are also visible here, though not as sharply as your other R. lophanthae photos. You've got quite a population of the little guys!

Moved
Moved from Scymninae.

Scymnus, not sure which
I did get Robert Gordon's monograph on Tribe Scymnini for my birthday, so I may at least get it down to a few possible species! (Can almost never visually ID Scymnus species without dissection but it may be narrowed down a little...)

thanks for your deeply touching cooperation, your Bobship.
makes life worth living. i'll let Abby handle this nice LB.

Moved from Beetles.
