Size: 22mm length.
Came to black light trap. (live oak/chaparral habitat). Found in same trap as . This individual lacks the small black dots laterally on the elytra, while all of the other individuals I've seen have them. This one does have depressed vestiture, and smooth distal antennomeres as discussed here: http://bugguide.net/node/view/162069. I did retain the specimen for further investigation if needed.

Likely C. spruca. The black dots come and go in large series, so that is not unusual. I'm surprised these are out so early, this is usually a July species, and given the cool WX, it is very interesting to see them out. Hold on to these and deposit them in the collection at UCSC or UCB.
