huge beetle

got up this morning and stepped out into the garage and saw what I think is a beetle. Man this thing had pinchers about the size of his body. He'd been walking around collecting dust and spider webs so I thought I'd pick him up and give him a bath. Big mistake. Somehow he latched onto me with those scary looking things. I flung him and he landed on a rocking chair. Finally put him in a bowl. I've got some great pictures of him that I'll post in the identification part of the forum tomorrow, as they're on my other computer so maybe someone can tell me what it is.

Another possibility
Giant Stag Beetle:

Hey Mr. Wolgemuth, that's it exactly. I must say that I've never seen one in miss. Thanks for I.D.ing it.

"Toe Biter"
Is it the "Giant Water Bug"?(1)

No I don't think so. The pinchers are more round and aren't spread so far apart. I think I'll post a few pictures tomorrow in the ID request, if that's the right place to send a photo. This thing reared up when I touched it.

ID request
Yes, ID request is the right place for them. Looking forward to it.
