Gelechiidae, larvae in Prairie sage - Scrobipalpa artemisiella

Gelechiidae, larvae in Prairie sage - Scrobipalpa artemisiella
Puccoon Prairie, Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt, Polk County, Iowa, USA
May 30, 2009
I'm including this photo because at first glance I would not notice the larvae. They tie the ends of the new leaves together and it looks very natural, as if the new leaves are still unfurling.
Prairie sage, Artemisia ludoviciana
Batch rearing.

Determination confirmed by Vazrick Nazari, who states that "Scrobipalpa artemisiella" is actually a complex of species that has yet to be worked out taxonomically.
