Beautiful Moth - Euclidia ardita

Any ideas what this might be? I'd be happy to start with family.

Flushed out at mid-morning in a grassy area amidst surrounding chaparral on a ridge high above the ocean.

Another gem!
I like 8732 – Euclidia ardita for this one but it is very similar looking to Euclidia cuspidea. Although the ranges may overlap (not sure) Powell and Opler (1) describe E. ardita as coastal species in Oregon and California. I'll update the species pages and I'm sure someone more familiar with these will chime in soon.

Yep, it's definitely Euclidia. I recall the genus was mentioned in the field...and I joked that a genus with a name like that ought to be in Geometridae rather than Noctuidae :-)

The species E. ardita and E. cuspidea do indeed look very similar! Perhaps, in dorsal view, E. cuspidea is a bit longer, narrower, and apically more rounded in outline? The one in my photo looks a bit more "squat" and apically truncate. At any rate, I'll bet that the coastal CA locale will lead to E. ardita, as you suggest.

I'll move it to genus page for now.

Euclidia ardita
Euclidia cuspidea has not been found in CA or any of its neighbor states, so I'm thinking it's probably safe to say this is E. ardita?
