Condylostylus - male

Condylostylus - Male
Kennebunk, York County, Maine, USA
June 13, 2011
Size: 5 mm
Found on an outside wall; also saw some on various leaves.

Moved
Moved from Sciapodinae. My other pictures were still too blurry to tell, so I went outside, and what I think is the same fly was sitting in the same spot as yesterday (it was cold last night)! It had the little tuft of hairs.

Moved
Moved from Flies.

It looks like Condylostylus caudatus except that the wings are slightly darkened. Do you have another picture?

No :(
The only other ones I had were blurry; I'll try to photograph another when I get the chance.

Tail hairs
Check your other pictures to see if that apparent hair sticking out of the back end is really part of the fly, a tuft of a few hairs longer than the last few abdominal segments. If so, move to the Condylostylus caudatus group.(1)
