mislabeled specimen from 1870's (!) - Phanaeus triangularis - Female
region of Lake Pontchartrain, Orleans Parish, Louisiana, USA
Size: 17mm
Several years ago I rescued a museum box of dung beetles that were going to be discarded. Most are from LA,AL,MS,OK, and there are a bunch from Costa Rica as well. I was sorting through to see if there were any cool specimens to add to the guide, and I found this one. It is labeled Phanaeus pluto Harold, (now known as Coprophanaeus pluto) but I'm certain its not that. The collection label says ca.1870-1874, region of Lake Pontchartrain.

Any ideas what it actually is? I can take different shots if particular anatomy is needed for ID.

Phanaeus triangularis triangularis, female
assuming it's from the US - only thing it can be.

Date
When adding images from any collection, either put in the actual collection date or remove the date entirely from all images.

wasn't sure how to do this
I didn't enter a date at all. I had nothing for mm/dd, and for year I had ca. 1870-1874

update: Just edited the date to read 07/01/1874, and it forced the date to Dec 13 1901!

Two things I know now
If no date is entered, the present date will be automatically assigned to an image. It is then possible to go back in and delete the date.

Also, the database apparently cannot handle dates prior to 1901.
