Male
This is a male. The head hasn't finished shrinking after emergence so the eyes are farther apart than usual.

The shape of the 5th sternite is consistent with P. hyoscami and relatives but I can't ID it. There is nothing in Griffiths' revision that is known from California and has been bred from Beta. P. betae has paler legs. P. hyoscami s. str. is an Eastern species, and possibly Mexican.
