size
do you know the length of this critter? The ocelli look awful big for Rhyacophila and venation/wing shape don't look right.

I'd be guessing, but it was a fair size, maybe 12 mm or a little more. Not a tiny creature. Are the ocelli an important character in identification? I could take close-up pictures of the head area in future if that would be useful

ocelli are one of the useful characters for separating families - in this case they look larger than what I thing is typical for Rhyacophila. I was thinking it is one of the phryganeids based on the large ocelli and venation, but 12mm is a bit small for those. If you didn't keep it ya probably cannot tell for sure what it is.
