Xylocopa virginica? - Xylocopa virginica - male

Xylocopa virginica? - Xylocopa virginica - Male
Columbia, Shelter Gardens, Boone County, Missouri, USA
June 15, 2011
This was one of the more interesting experiences I've had with an insect while photographing. The (male?) bee seemed really interested in me. Kept hovering right next to me and chasing off any large insects that flew anywhere nearby, whether it was other carpenter bees, cicadas, a few wasps, and even a large dragonfly. He just kept hovering closer and closer to me, seemed really interested in my camera. Took a good 20 minutes to get a half decent shot.

Nice shot!

Hmmm...
Ive seen this guy buzzing around somewhere before :)

Haha
What can I say, I was proud of the shot :P

I don't know what species, but . . .

Oh wow
That's neat. Kind of what I figured was going on. It was a pretty neat thing to experience. It got within inches several times. Really cool creature.
