Thank you! I saw a dozen or so of these on the prickly pear cacti in the Dry Tortugas.

St. Andrews Cross Spider?
I had one in my garden once and a friend told me it was a banana spider. When i googled banana spider (they are native to brazil?) I found a more common garden spider called the St. Andrews Cross Spider. Of course it has different names for different countries.

In North America, Argiope aurantia is commonly known as the black and yellow garden spider, corn spider, and writing spider, because of the similarity of the web stabilimenta to writing... per wikipedia.
