metallic fly - Copestylum barei
near Inverness, Sumter County, Florida, USA
June 9, 2011
This was captured in a Malaise trap in a xeric area that was mostly scrubby flatwoods and sandhill habitats. If another angle or a closeup of a certain external structure would help with identification, please let me know.

other characters?
Please let me know if there are closeups of any external characters that would be useful for the guide for genus and/or species level IDs, as I have the specimen ready for more photos, but won't have it ready for too much longer. Also, thanks for the ID.

There are only a few of these
There are only a few of these metallic greenish purple species, and this one is the only one with the basal abdominal segments dark. So you have captured most of the important characters... if you're not. Please let me know if this shows anything diagnostic and, if so, what it doesn't show. Thanks again.

Thanks. I'll see what I can do
with the dorsal surface of the left wing.
