Wasp - Monodontomerus - female

Wasp - Monodontomerus - Female
Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, USA
June 17, 2011
Size: 4-5mm
Any ID for this small wasp? Is it a Chalcid wasp? It was trying to stick its ovipositer into the mud cover of a hole where I had seen either a bee or wasp go into, a few days before. The mud cover is 10mm across, making the wasp 4-5mm in length. I'm adding a second, much closer shot of the wasp for ID help. Thanks.

Moved
Monodontomerus confirmed by the contact who knows torymids.

Moved from "Parasitica" (parasitic Apocrita).

Moved for expert attention
Moved from Ants, Bees, Wasps and Sawflies.

There are some similar critters in Torymidae. But that's just a guess on my part. The experts will let you know if I'm anywhere close.

Host
Looking through the Hymenoptera catalog, I see that there are some torymids that are parasitoids of bees, sphecids, and other aculeates. My torymid contact is traveling and won't be answering his email until he gets back home. Surely, if more can be learned about the kind of critter that made the nest, the better the chance for identifying the particular torymid.
