Scymnus kansanus
Only two species have solid-black elytra and immaculate pale pronota like this, and S. kansanus is the only one in Wisconsin.

Of course the reason I managed to get decent shots is because they were totally distracted ;)
I'll look for more this weekend to see if I can get a better shot from above. Or maybe I'll send some to Scott J. !

A dorsal shot would be great!
S. kansanus is supposed to be "elongated" while the similar species, S. cervicalis, is supposed to be "oval," but I have a very hard time telling what that means! So a straight-down dorsal shot, if possible, would be great.
I don't know if you keep a list of BugGuide "firsts" but you can put these little beetles on one if you do. I'm very thrilled to add a species to the always-difficult Scymnus!

yes, probably Scymnus
I'm making it my mission to figure out these little brown beetles, and the immaculate pale pronota may be a clue. I'll see what I can come up with!
