white flying insect on native dogwood tree leaf - Antaeotricha

white flying insect on native dogwood tree leaf - Antaeotricha
Swanzey , Cheshire County, New Hampshire, USA
June 19, 2011
The weather is perfect: sunny, bit of a breeze, in the high 70's. This opposite leaved dogwood tree in my backyard always has several insects or spiders on its leaves at any one time. Sawflies will almost decimate the leaves by summer's end. At the base of many petioles, an insect had put spittle. Lower leaves had almost circular holes, around a 1/4". This insect barely moved. What struck me when I downloaded images was the almost blob-like, tentacle knob where the wings meet. Maybe it's part of this insect, I don't know.

This is just a guess but take a look at Antaeotricha.

Looks like and makes sense
The moth's common name and similarity of my photos to the linked photos make sense to me that this an Antaeotricha. Sometimes common names are apropos. Thanks!

I agree. Several years ago I came across one which I at first ignored because I really did think it was just a dropping.
