Multiple individuals hanging around on the chain link. Thought they might be robber flies, but they don't seem to match the pics. Thanks for any help!

I assumed the move to...
Volucella bombylans was a mistake, so I moved to the Asilidae page. Hope I did the right thing!

Yes, you're right, a goof of my fingers. I think this an Efferia species, but let's wait for a confirmation.

You were on the right track, this is definitely an Asilid, and a male with that hammer-shaped abdomen. Let's move it to the family for now.
