Phantom crane fly?

Pretty sure this is a different genus of phantom crane fly. The short legs, and spotted wings remind me of images we have received for our field guide, reliably labelled that way.

Probably Ptychoptera

Looks like, perhaps, Ptychoptera species--Insects of Cedar Creek. Photo of living specimen is poor, unfortunately. Family PTYCHOPTERIDAE--Phantom Crane Flies--Insect Cedar Creek.

Ptychoptera paludosa--species from the UK.

Aha! Arnett, p. 862 (1) lists just two North American genera, Bittacomorpha and Ptychoptera. Bittacomorpha clavipes is the only eastern US species in that genus. Seems like process of elimination works here. Arnett lists 10 North American species of Ptychoptera. No listings for this genus at North Carolina State University--their digital collection is not complete.

Nearctica.com lists 3 genera in family: Bittacomorpha (2 spp) Bittacomorphella (4 spp), and Ptychoptera (11 spp.)
