Grasshopper - Derotmema delicatulum

Grasshopper - Derotmema delicatulum
Red Rock Canyon State Park, Kern County, California, USA
May 28, 2011
Size: ~5mm
Found in creosote bush scrub, not too sure on ID. Possibly Least Desert Grasshopper (Xeracris minimus) - 2nd Instar?

I might be barkin' up the wrong tree,
but it reminds me more of Spaniacris deserticola, which I don't know if even occurs in Kern County at all.

Spaniacris
Looking at which looks to be about the same age developmentally, the proportions don't seem to match up especially the eyes, pronotum and antennae. Would Derotmema sp. be a possibility?

six months to say "I don't know"
It doesn't remind me of Derotmema, but when I check, D. haydeni nymphs do look somewhat similar (but the pronotum is much rougher). Perhaps this is D. delicatum????

Not really sure either...
I'm not sure on this guy either. I've reviewed the shot a few times and find myself kind of leaning back towards Xeracris minimus. I guess I'll just have to go back ;o)

fastigium and hind femora
are quite different from Xeracris. I guess it'll remain a puzzle for now.

Think I found it...
I found this shot from someone on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ron_r/3902389692/. I'm not sure what it is, but it looks like the adult version of this guy and Mojave isn't too far from where he was found.

Second glance, it looks like D. delicatum, so I'm thinking you're right ;o)
