Calico pennant? - Celithemis elisa

Calico pennant? - Celithemis elisa
Swanzey , Cheshire County, New Hampshire, USA
June 20, 2010
Sunshine, 70's, breezy, low lying field that serves also as a flood plain that is occasionally flooded in the spring and fall. Field is separated by a hedge row from a brook that shortly flows into the currently slow-moving Ashuelot River. Most of the non-native grasses and plants are in bloom, though I was surprised to also see blue-eyed grass, a native plant. The breeze had obviously interrupted this dragonfly's flight. I am using the book A Field Guide to the Dragonflies and Damselflies of Massachusetts by Blair Nikula, Jennifer L. Loose, and Matthew R. Burne to help me with identification, but I've found that even with this excellent guide, I'm often unsure of identification.
