10 spp. in 2 genera in our area (all Cyminae), ~60 spp. in 13 genera of 2 subfamilies total(1)
Range
most spp. in the Old World; Cyminae occur in the Afrotropical, western Palaearctic and Nearctic Regions, the other (small) subfamily Australasian(2)
Habitat
often found in seedheads of hostplants in marshy areas
Food
seeds of monocots, primarily sedges (Cyperaceae) and rushes (Juncaceae), sometimes grasses (Poaceae)
