Miller and Hammond have a similar looking caterpillar
that they call Synedoida. We'll check to see if those are synonymous.
Hmmm, Synedoida has been synonymized with Drasteria and we have no caterpillar images of Drasteria on BugGuide!

Don't know if you identified the caterpillar yet,
but it looks like Caenurgina, Wagner pg 359

J&J
Yes, it think you are correct. Thank you!
I seldom even try to ID my caterpillar images if I don't get an adult. Perhaps I'll post them this winter and see what you can do.

Moved from ID Request.

The cocoon looks like a Microplitis
The caterpillar is some kind of noctuid, but I have no idea beyond that.

I added a close up
of the cocoon. Do you still think it is a Microplitis?

Yes
Due to the longitudinal ribbing (more visible in the second shot). Microplitis spp. are associated with noctuids, so that's good supporting evidence. Of course, since you have the wasp, this is a good opportunity to find out if my cocoon IDs can be trusted...

I'm laughting
the second freezer is full of wasps, and beetles, and tiny Leps...
Next winter, I'll get to it next winter.
