Don't know about this one. Looks more like Paromalus to me based on the width and the punctation. Need a straight on well-illuminated dorsal shot.

Jeff
New dorsal image added, hope this is good enough?

Thanks,

Gary

Aequalis - Say
I'm confused now as aequalis is a species under Paromalus in "Beetles of the Northwest" Melvin Hatch Part III pp. 268.

You may want to supplement Hatch with Bouquet and Laplante's recent treatment of the histerids of Canada (http://www.amazon.com/Coleoptera-Histeridae-Yves-Bousquet/dp/066019399X). Should be almost complete, if not complete, coverage of the Washington fauna. Awesome keys and images!

Thanks for the heads up.
Just ordered from Amazon..

Thank you so much...
Looks to be a first for the West Coast.. When I looked it up in Hatch Part III, he had it for se BC and north ID and marked rare. another odd looking Hister...

Thanks again V.
