This is an adult of the owlfly Ululodes macleayanus (Guilding, 1825).

Hi, Ed -- I just posted one of these, myself. I can tell you it's an Owlfly (Family Ascalaphidae), but I can't tell in the close-up whether it has divided eyes or not. If so, it's in the genus Ululodes; if not, it's in Ascaloptynx. I'd never seen one before tonight (5/22), either -- still trying to figure out the species. Mine are over at:
