Hairy black caterpillars with yellow and blue markings and red head

Hairy black caterpillars with yellow and blue markings and red head
San Cristobal Canyon, Columbine-Hondo Wilderness Study Area, Taos County, New Mexico, USA
June 25, 2011
Size: 2-2.5 cm body length?
Here's a less cropped version of the image with the two caterpillars, to show the host plant. I'd be happy to frass this or submit a different version if this is worth keeping but too big or whatever.

Host plant
Could it be a species of Mertensia? These moths are known to use bluebells as host plants.

Yes
That's probably a correct identification. As I said in a comment on the first (closest) image, I thought in hindsight that it was Mertensia franciscana. I should have noticed and been able to say that from the start, though.
